He is the identical twin brother of Hamit Altıntop who plays for Real Madrid. Altıntop started his professional career in the local German club Wattenscheid 09 along with his brother. As successful performances grabbed the attention of bigger clubs, Altıntop was transferred to Kaiserslautern, and his brother to Schalke. Altıntop, who plays as a striker, finished third highest scorer in the Bundesliga for the 2005–06 season with 20 goals. At the end of that season he joined his brother at Schalke on a free transfer. Coşkun Özarı (1931 – June 22, 2011) was a Turkish football player and coach. Born 1931 in Istanbul, Coşkun Özarı joined Galatasaray as a very young student. After graduating from Galatasaray Lycee, he first appeared in the Galatasaray starting line-up at the age of 17. The backbone of Galatasaray, as well as the national team defense for the next 13 years, Özarı was known for his hard tackling, but mild manners. His leadership in defense led the team with Gündüz Kılıç as coach, Turgay Şeren in goal and Metin Oktay upfront, to several championships and Turkish Cup victories. Özarı's career as a player ended early due to his desire to become a coach. In 1961, he attended a coaching seminar in England, led by Walter Winterbottom. When he returned home, he became Galatasaray's assistant coach. Three years later, he took over the head coach position from Kılıç and led the team to four championships. When he was appointed national team coach, in 1965, he coached the team for 10 years. He managed the team from 1972 to 1976. He ended his coaching career in 1986 and became a sportswriter. Fatih Tekke (born 9 September 1977) is a Turkish international footballer who is currently playing as a striker for Orduspor in the Süper Lig. Tekke was born in the small town of Köprübaşı, in the province of Trabzon. He joined Trabzonspor, the major team in the area. Tekke was still in his teens when he started to appear in the first team. In 45 matches that he played between 1994–1997, he scored 6 goals. At the beginning of the 1997–1998 season he was loaned out to Altay SK of İzmir, where he scored 8 goals in 24 matches. Hakkı Yeten, (1910 – 17 April 1989) was a Turkish football player and president of the İstanbul-based football club Beşiktaş J.K., which he also coached. Yeten was born in 1910 at Vodina, then in Bulgaria, then under Ottoman rule. His father, a major in the Ottoman Army moved his family of six children to İstanbul, settling in the Beşiktaş district when Yeten was a year old. In 1914, Yeten's father was killed in the Battle of the Dardanelles. Yeten went on to attend military high school, as his two elder brothers did before him. Arif Erdem (born 2 January 1972) is a retired Turkish international footballer and the former manager of İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor. He played in the forward position. Tümer Metin (born October 14, 1974) is a retired Turkish international footballer. He played as an attacking midfielder. Metin was born in Zonguldak. After playing for four years at Samsunspor, he was transferred to Beşiktaş J.K., along with team-mate İlhan Mansız in 2001. He signed a contract with Fenerbahçe in June 2006 after spending five years at Beşiktaş. Metin's star shone brightly in Europe during the UEFA Cup 2006-07 Round of 32 tie against AZ Alkmaar. In the first leg in Istanbul Metin contributed the Yellow Canaries' first goal as well as the equalizing brace which made the final score 3–3. The second brace was much more spectacular in that his run came from just within the midfield line and his shot, a cracker from the top corner of the 16 yard box, was placed precisely in the top corner of the goal. Hakan Ünsal is remembered by many for his rocket left foot and his pinpoint passing as well as his nonstop desire for victory. Rüştü Reçber (pronounced [ˈɾyʃty ˈɾetʃbeɾ]; born 10 May 1973, Korkuteli) is a Turkish international footballer who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Akhisar Belediyespor in the Spor Toto Süper Lig, having previously played for Antalyaspor, Fenerbahçe, Barcelona and Beşiktaş. He has played a key role in the success of the Turkish national squad, and it was at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where Turkey finished third, that his performances saw him selected for the tournament's all-star team. He is Turkey's record appearance holder, having earned 119 caps. He made his debut against Iceland in 1994 and his final appearance came against Armenia in 2009. Rüştü was named the best goalkeeper in European competitions in 2002, selected for the 2002 UEFA Team Of The Year by public vote. Niyazi Serhat Akın (born 5 June 1981 in Bretten, West Germany) is a Turkish football striker who plays for Turgutluspor. Akin started his career with Karlsruher SC in Germany. He played for Fenerbahçe SK between 2000–2005 and played 179 matches (125 for Turkish Super League), after which he went to Anderlecht on a free transfer in the summer of 2005. Ersen Martin (born 23 May 1979 in Marktredwitz, West Germany) is a Turkish footballer who plays for Gençlerbirliği as a centre forward. Born in Germany, Ersen started playing in 1. FC Nuremberg, his Bundesliga debut consisting in 20 minutes in a 0–1 loss at SC Freiburg, in 1998–99. After that sole season and appearance, he switched to Turkey, going on to represent Beşiktaş JK, Siirtspor (loan), Göztepe AS, Denizlispor and Ankaraspor. Şenol Güneş (pronounced [ˈʃenoɫ ˈɟyneʃ]; born 1 June 1952 in Trabzon) is a former Turkish footballer, manager and philosopher. His biggest accomplishment to date is coaching the Turkey that won the bronze medal in the 2002 World Cup. Güneş is married and has two children. Güneş began his amateur career at Erdoğdu Gençlik as a goalkeeper. Shortly after he was recruited for the Trabzonspor development team, he began playing for the senior team soon after. He played for Trabzonspor for twelve years between 1975 and 1987. During this period he won six league championships. He was part of the "Trabzonpor Efsanesi" (literally "The Legend of Trabzonspor", a name given by the Turkish press) along with other local players such as Turgay Semercioğlu, Necmi Perekli, and Ali Kemal Denizci. Gökhan Gönül (born 4 January 1985) is a Turkish international footballer who currently plays as a right back for Fenerbahçe. Gönül is also a senior international for Turkey with 20 caps to his name. Gönül was born in Karaköy, Samsun, where he and his family lived before moving to Bursa when Gönül was six years old. His uncle signed him up with Bursayolspor's youth squad in 1999, and Gönül began his footballing career as a goalkeeper. Hami Mandıralı (born July 20, 1968 in Arsin, Trabzon, Turkey) a Turkish former footballer. He played for Trabzonspor nearly all of his career, and is considered one of the most famous and talented Turkish footballers of all time. Mandıralı joined Trabzonspor aged 10, and continued on to make his professional debut in 1985, aged 17. He quickly established himself as one of the most consistent finishers of his time. He has spent his whole career as an Everton player, though he has spent time on loan at Carlisle United and Derby County. Ekrem Hayyam Dağ (born 5 December 1980 in Mardin, Turkey) is a Turkish-Austrian footballer currently playing for Turkish club Beşiktaş J.K. Dağ started his career at SVL Flavia Solva but joined the youth team of SK Sturm Graz in 1997 where he made his professional debut four years later. In the summer of 2005 he returned to the land of his birth and signed for Gaziantepspor. In the summer of 2008, after three seasons in Gaziantep, Dağ signed in summer 2008 for Beşiktaş J.K. Dağ is an allrounder and has played as right back, winger, right midfielder or in the left midfield. Dağ was born in Turkey but came to Austria with his family when he was 8 years old. His father was a Gastarbeiter. Dağ grew up in Leibnitz and holds Austrian and Turkish dual nationality, making him eligible for both countries. Alper Balaban (August 1, 1987, Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg  – April 12, 2010) was a Turkish-German footballer who started his career with Fenerbahçe. Alper Balaban was raised in Gemmingen and Heilbronn. He began his career with German club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. In 2005, he was transferred to Fenerbahçe. He made his debut in a Turkish Cup match against Sivasspor on November 11, 2006 and was brought on in the 82nd minute. Balaban played 58 times for Fenerbahçe PAF and scored 16 goals. On April 5, 2010, he was involved in a car accident in Bretten, Germany, and died on April 12, 2010.

Born as the son of a fisherman and a tailor, his parents' names were Christofis and Argyro. He grew up with ten other brothers and sisters. Ümit Korkmaz (born 17 September 1985) is an Austrian footballer of Turkish descent who plays as a winger for German club Eintracht Frankfurt and the Austrian national team. He was born in Vienna. Davala played with VfR Mannheim, ASV Feudenheim, Türkspor Mannheim, Afyonspor, Genclerbirligi, Diyarbakırspor and Istanbulspor AS before joining Galatasaray in 1997. After his Japan journey, he signed a contract with Hertha BSC but because of his injury, he never had a chance to play for the first team. He was transferred to Gençlerbirliği during the 2000–01 season after his stay with Kocaelispor. In 2006, Boral signed with Fenerbahçe, where he was given the number 25 shirt. He scored two goals on his Champions League debut against CSKA Moscow on Matchday 6 of the 2007–08 season. Boral Signed a 1 year contract for Fenerbahçe which will keep him at the club until 2012. Boral signed Samsunspor on January 7. He was called up to Turkey's Euro 2008 squad and started the semi-final against Germany on 25 June 2008 at St. Jakob-Park, Basel. He scored the opening goal, which was also his first for Turkey. Turkey eventually lost 3–2.
