    Raleigh Grifter

    Raleigh Grifter

    • Manufacturer: Raleigh Bicycle Company
The Raleigh Grifter was a children's bicycle manufactured and marketed from 1976 and until early 1983 by the Raleigh Bicycle Company of Nottingham, England. It was the "must have" bicycle of its time and bridged a gap between the Raleigh Chopper and the Raleigh Burner models. Like an upside down Chopper, it was part of a range of age-specific bicycles and was positioned at the top of that range. The smallest in the range was the Raleigh Boxer with the Raleigh Strika in the middle. There is a strong following with enthusiast groups. The MK1 Grifter dates back to May 1976, although this pre-mass production version of the bike is quite rare (Frame numbers starting with ng6) Main production started in June 1976 and continued until 1979. The MK1 changed slightly as production progressed, there are a few differences between the earliest and later mk1 Grifters. The early pre mass production models had super mx tyres instead of the supergrips and skinny handlebar foam. The MK1 came in two colours, Metallic Blue and Metallic Red, although the earliest Grifters were mainly blue. It is now known that the later MK1 models were more of a bronzy red rather than the original candy apple red. The

    Explorer 600

    Explorer 600

    • Manufacturer: Claud Butler
The Explorer range combines the conventional geometry of the Hybrid and the poise of the mountain bike offering the best of both worlds. A wide choice of gears combined with 700c wheels and a low centre of gravity makes the bikes feel fast on tarmac, but with a semi off road tyre tread and suspension forks you have the option to head onto the hills and trails when the mood takes you.

    Specialized Stumpjumper

    Specialized Stumpjumper

    • Bicycle type: Mountain bike
    • Manufacturer: Specialized Bicycle Components
The Specialized Stumpjumper is a mountain bike produced by Specialized Bicycle Components. When it was first produced in 1981, the Stumpjumper was the first mass-production mountain bike. The Stumpjumper is still in production, although its design has changed significantly since it was first sold. Stumpjumpers have been raced professionally by riders including Christoph Sauser and Ned Overend. Specialized started to produce the Stumpjumper in 1981, making it the first mass-production mountain bike. The first Stumpjumper was produced in Japan and was based on a design for a custom-made bike originally marketed by Tom Ritchey, Gary Fisher and Charles Kelly. Specialized's founder Mike Sinyard has explained that the company's aim was to "make a bike on a production basis but as though it was a custom bike". The first Stumpjumpers had welded steel frames because the lugged and brazed frames that designer Tim Neenan wanted to use were not available at the time. The original bike had a modified BMX stem and handlebars based on Magura motorcycle handlebars. The bike was equipped with 15-speed Suntour ARX GT gears, originally designed for use on road bikes, and the Stumpjumper also featured

    Raleigh Chopper

    • Manufacturer: Raleigh Bicycle Company
The Raleigh Chopper is a children's bicycle, a wheelie bike, manufactured and marketed in the 1970s by the Raleigh Bicycle Company of Nottingham, England. Its unique design became a cultural icon, and is fondly remembered by many who grew up in that period. Based on the look of a customised chopper motorcycle, made popular with films such as Easy Rider, the Chopper bike was the "must have" item and signifier of "coolness" for many children at the time. Ogle Design claim to have designed the Chopper for Raleigh. They actually only produced concept art for the Raleigh design department headed by Alan Oakley; only the seat and spoke protector were taken up. The final design of the Chopper was submitted by Oakley's department to management and production started in 1968. Raleigh built a copy of the chopper-like Schwinn Sting-Ray they called the Rodeo, which was launched in the United States in 1966. It was not a success, but its design clearly was a forerunner of the Chopper. This lack of success prompted Raleigh to send its chief designer, Alan Oakley, to America to investigate first hand the United States youth market. Oakley saw that a new bike was required, in a very non-Schwinn

Electrically assisted bikes are becoming increasingly popular as viable forms of transport in the UK. Reliable battery technology, reduced charge times and improved range have resulted in the E-Bike becoming a serious alternative to the car at a time where fuel prices are escalating and congestion is becoming more of a problem.

    Xtracycle

    Xtracycle

    • Bicycle type: Longtail
Xtracycle is the name of a company and the name commonly used for the variety of load-carrying bicycle, a longtail or a longbike, that results from use of the company's products: the FreeRadical kit, complete long-frame bicycles and associated accessories. Web forums and blogs often use the shorthand Xtrabike, Xtra, or simply X to refer to either the FreeRadical extension or the entire extended bicycle. An Xtracycle may be constructed by modifying an existing bicycle with a Free Radical extension, or by custom-building an extended-tail bicycle frame. Xtracycles are promoted as a way to achieve a bicycle-centric transportation lifestyle. While the Xtracycle is based on a standard hardtail diamond frame with 26-inch or 622 mm (700c) wheels, the Xtracycle differs from other load-carrying bicycles in that it does not employ a handlebar basket, panniers, or a bicycle trailer. Baskets are easy to attach and allow stowing of cargo in plain view. Panniers are often watertight or water resistant, and can be easily removed from their racks and carried as luggage. While trailers come in many designs and allow a bicycle to pull a significant amount of cargo, an Xtracycle allows for more

    Raleigh Burner

    • Manufacturer: Raleigh Bicycle Company
The Raleigh Burner is a BMX bicycle first launched in early 1982 by the Raleigh Bicycle Company. It was a replacement of the Grifter. The name continued to 1988 and was brought back in early 2000s, although it has been nowhere near as successful sales wise as the 80s item. The original team Burners, and Aero Pro Burners are now the most sought after and rare out of the Raleigh BMX range. The Raleigh Burner range was split into Six different frames: This can be identified by the loop tail frame and gusset with two holes in it. This has an oval profile rather than round as per Mk1.The looptail was ditched and the frame made longer.A letter 'R' was cut out in the front and rear wheel spindle drop outs. In 2007 Raleigh started to release in limited numbers "anniversary" models, the first being a Team Aero. Raleigh joined forces with Burner fans to re-create what was deemed the most memorable Burner (the Aero pro burner in the Raleigh team colours). Mag burners have followed since.
