About Zayed University

Zayed University (or ZU), established in 1998, is the newest of the three government sponsored higher educational institutions in the United Arab Emirates. The other two sister institutions are the Higher Colleges of Technology established in 1988 and the United Arab Emirates University established in 1976. Zayed University was named in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the country's first president and founder. On 30 June 2008, it was announced that Zayed University had been granted accreditation by the U.S.-based Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Internationally Zayed University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), one of six regional accrediting bodies in the United States. Though the regular review process runs on a ten year cycle, after initial accreditation institutions are required to complete a full self-study at five years. Zayed University is currently engaged in the self-study process and expects to confirm accreditation in 2013. Zayed University is organized academically into seven colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business Sciences, Communication and Media
